Husker Loyal

I am linking up for the Five Minute Friday. The FMF is hosted by Kate Motaung over at our Five Minute Friday website. Today’s word prompt is “loyal.” We’d love to have you join us.

We would crowd around the television watching the football move from side to side. As little girls, one of us would inevitably end up in grandpa Sam’s lap. As we grew, we never grew out of gathering around the television with Grandpa.

The sounds of Tom Osborne coaching his team carried through the tv. All of us chanting “Go Big Red” filled the room. The loyalty of tried and true Huskers fans enveloped the room. These are still some of my fave memories growing up.

And others knew our loyalty too. Mom gifted me a homemade Huskers quilt for my high school graduation. My best friend gifted me a stuffed Herbie the Husker. He’s a little worse for wear as his stuffing is starting to come out. But beautiful reminders of my loyalty to this team.

To this day, I am loyal to my Huskers. I watch every game I can usually dressed in my fave Husker tshirt or sweatshirt. This girl will always be loyal to her Huskers.

Go Big Red!!

  1. Ah, Tara, I am a loyal football fan too–but not my family. It is kind of funny. My husband & I are on a little trip, but we will get home in time for me to watch the Michigan vs Notre Dame game next Saturday. Hope your team has a good season!

  2. I have never been one for college football. My own undergraduate college didn’t have a team. 🙂 But, I can appreciate the strong allegiances that others have to their teams. Glad this one lasted for you! Visiting from FMF!

  3. LOVE LOVE College football! I am a FSU Seminoles Fan and UCF Knights fan as well. We live in Orlando so a home team plus my college team. Also, I’ll holler a “War Eagle” for Auburn as well since my sister went there! Hope it’s a good year for all!

  4. My husband and I were talking last night about the start of football season. I feel so disconnected (because it has gotten way too expensive (in our family’s priorities) to be season ticket holders like we once were (for FSU if that wasn’t obvious from my replies above LOL). But that loyalty does indeed run deep as yours does. The depth is fueled by so many great memories, as yours are.

  5. What great memories! Although I am not a big sports fan, I possess a love for all things Michigan State. My dad went there and we spent many moments either on campus or engaging with the tv.
