5. Your least favorite bill: car mechanic, dentist or plumber?
Totally car mechanic. Since moving at the end of December, I have had to put new tires, a new steering hose and pump in my car! I hope..and pray that I am done for a while now!

BONUS: If you are going to have a Lenten practice or discipline, what is it? If you have a book or on-line resource, be sure to share it! For the last several years, my practice has been to pray through my friends list for Lent. I love it…and plan on doing it again this year.

Whispers of Gentleness

Anyone else notice how easily their #oneword365 slips into their head and heart? Sometimes my #oneword slips so easily in, that it takes me a minute to realize that it has snuck into my head and heart.

My word #gentle has been slipping in to my heart and brain so much lately. When I yearn for my Mr Right…I hear that voice saying, “Br gentle with yourself. Your time will come.” When I find myself feeling a little sense of loneliness as I continue to slowly make friends in this new place, I again hear that whisper of gentleness.

That whisper of gentleness continually reminds me to be gentle…gentle with myself! This whisper of gentleness is what I believe I need to continue to grow into this year as I learn to be more gentle with myself! Yet that isn’t always so easy!

May I continue to hear that whisper of gentleness and may I be gentle with myself!

For the Love of….

Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day! Now I realize that tomorrow is about showing love to those you love and I truly support and encourage that. But as a very single 35 year old, V Day has always been such a difficult day for me. It’s like the flowers, and the chocolate etc are just thrown right in front of my face. V Day has become in many ways Single Awareness Day.

I hate to be that way but it is difficult when this day in particular is all about couples etc. I yearn for the day when I will not see V Day as negative but positive for me. I want to be spoiled! I want to share my love with that someone special!

Tomorrow I will choose to focus on the love that I see around me; love that is grounded in Gods love. I will celebrate my friends who are starting families. I will celebrate my classmate and friend as her husband and her gaze into the eyes of their newly born daughter. I will celebrate those relationships around me that make me smile and show me that Gods love is as wide and deep as the ocean.

I will celebrate those in my life who have blessed me! My dear friends you know who you are! And I will continue to nurture and nourish those relationships in Gods love.

I don’t know what my future holds but I trust in God. And most days that is so much easier said than done. But in time I truly believe God will bring that special person in my life. (Who knows maybe that person is already in my life?)

However for now (and I’m sorry to be this way), I find myself being cynical. So to my single friends, Happy Single Awareness Day. Or in other words, Happy Valentines Day!

So on a lighter note, I have to share my favorite picture from last week. An incredible photo of God’s amazing creation!!

Come to the E

On Monday night, I returned from attending my first ELCA YMNET Extravaganza. My friend Sarah has been trying to get me to attend an E for quite awhile now. I don’t know why but I often would drag my feet and come up with some excuse for why I couldn’t or wouldn’t be attending the E (as it is affectionately known in the Network.) But this year I gave in…and I am so glad that I did.

The ELCA YMNET exists to strengthen and empower adult youth ministry leaders in service to Christ as part of God’s mission. And what a gift the network is…a place to gather with others who understand the call to children, youth, and family ministry and know its joys and struggles. I was blessed to gather with friends and colleagues from many different places in my life. I was blessed to meet new friends who loved and accepted me for who God created me to be! I was blessed to spend some time exploring the city and recharging my batteries.

The E hosts many wonderful workshops throughout the event to help us grow and learn new practices for working with children, youth and families. For me, there were so many wonderful workshops that I wanted to attend but I couldn’t get to them all. There also was large group gatherings where we worshipped together. The comedian was awesome.

I also love that on the last day…there was a time for healing prayers and blessings. It was an incredibly humbling experience for me to bless friends and colleagues. I am glad that I offered up myself to pray because God sure works in amazing ways. I was on the complete opposite side of the room from where we were sitting but yet somehow I ended up blessing dear friends in my life.

There is so much more I could say about how wonderful the E is! I hope that you are able to join us in 2015 in Detroit. I wont be dragging my feet anymore…and will definitely be in Detroit. And thank you Sarah for encouraging me to attend the E. I just should have listened much sooner than I did!
