I am linking up for the Five Minute Friday. The FMF is hosted by Kate Motaung on her blog Heading Home. Today’s prompt is “create.” It was so good to join in the party again this week even if I was in and out. Party was starting just as my sister and I returned home from our vacation in SD where we were creating memories together. We took a sisters trip to the beautiful Black Hills of SD. I’m home for part of the day today. Then off on a short little trip for the end of vacation. One of the girls my sister and I used to babysit is getting married tomorrow.
Ever since I was little, I have been a writer; a creater. My mom has told me that I often was happy with just a pen and paper. I love to create. I may not be the best artist, but I do love to create…to create Shutterfly scrapbooks, to write poetry and write in general. Create is a great word for me..and many of us!
I created a self-published book using the Amazon website “CreateSpace” this year. The book is a compilation of my 2014 write 31 days series “Living as a Daughter: 31 Days of Mental Illness.” As I sat and worked on my book, it was so amazing to watch it come to fruition. And the minute it was finished and I held it in my hands, I had so many feelings: Joy, fear, excitement, etc. I wonder if God felt all those emotions too when God created the world.
This week my sister and I have been creating memories. Sunday-Thursday we spent in the beautiful Black Hills of SD. We went to Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, drove through Custer State Park, saw awesome wildlife on the wildlife loop and so much more. I have over 100 pictures on my phone. I started uploading them to my Facebook page the other day and I still have over 80 some on my phone. I love taking photos and creating a photo book. It is so fun to create a book of memories. I carefully select the proper backgrounds, matching stickers, etc.
To create is truly a gift. It reminds us of the beautiful power of God and all God has created. Look around you today. Take in all that God created for us…a gorgeous blue sky, a warm sun, beautiful flowers and so much more.
I totally agree with everything you said! This is great! I hope your new memories from your vacation has a great impact for you Tara.
Thanks Kimberly!
He is the first Creator: Amen! "To create is truly a gift. It reminds us of the beautiful power of God and all God has created." Love this. Have a wonderful weekend, Tara. Glad to be your neighbor at #FMF. xoxo
Thanks Carolina! Hope you had a wonderful weekend too! xoxo
i love creating too tara:) words have been a much more recent way i have used for creating. i quilt…the piecing part is my favorite part:) i love the feel of the fabric, mixing the colors and seeing how some combine to pop while others blend together in a very bland way. naturally, i love to make the combinations that pop:) i have also loved to create in a variety of other ways over the years. sadly, i haven't done as much creating lately. i'm going to have to get with it. it is what makes me feel more alive.
Martha, isn't creating so fun. I have never been a quilter, but I love watching my Grandma quilt.
Tara, God has given you many ways to create! How fun! And, I didn't know you already published your book. Congratulations!
I haven't spent much time thinking about what God must have felt as He created the earth. The flowers with their colors, the duck-billed platypus, oceans with huge waves, the myriads of stars . . . no wonder the Bible says He said it was good. I think He smiled when He was done. 🙂 Thanks for making God a bit more personal to me today. 🙂
Thank You, Jeanne! Yes, I published my Write 31 days series book at the end of May. My other book is still in the works. I am glad that I could make God a bit more personal to you today friend!
"To create is truly a gift." Spot-on there. How lovely that the Lord gave us this drive but also gave us a million different ways to express our creativity!
Thanks friend!And totally!
Nice post that made me think of God's relational nature and how he must have thought how beautiful his creation was at the beginning. I wish I could figure out the whole "linky" thing, I'm so not techie!
Thanks Myrna! The "linky" thing is really easy. Just click on add your link, post the link to your blog. I wish I could show you.
Sounds like you had an amazing time, and the bringing together of the memories in the photos is such a magical process as well! Beautiful 🙂
Yes. And thanks Emma!
Creating memories is the best kind of creating, I think. Also: We're heading to Custer State Park for a family reunion. It sounds amazing!!
For sure, Annie! Have fun at Custer. The wildlife loop is awesome. A friend also told me about an awesome Burger restaurant called "Black Hills Burger and Bun Company." I was so looking forward to trying a burger there. We got there at 2:15 and they closed at 2. Open from like 11-2 and 5:30-7:30 or something like that. If you try a burger there, you MUST tell me about it!
Tara, you create so much beauty for us with your words. Your adventure and eagerness to capture the world is breathtaking.
Awww thanks, Christina!
I hope to visit Mount Rushmore one of these days. Sounds like a great time. 😉
You definitely need to!
Tara,
now you're in my old stomping grounds. I worked at the Taco Bell on Mt. Rushmore Road and went to high school just outside Rapid City. 😀
Then college south of Crazy Horse in Nebraska.
I didn't write this week, though I love to create. Too much going on, but wanted to come tell you that I love your heart and your creativity as you are made in His image, you're a mini-creator. 🙂
Love,
Tammy
Wow…I didn't realize you had worked and lived in that area. SO cool. Thank You! Love you too friend!
To create really is a gift and I love how it reminds us of all that God has created. I'm glad you had a good trip and were able to create some happy memories.
Tara, it sounds like you've been having a wonderful time creating all those memories! Your last paragraph is especially inspiring! Thank you for your love post! Blessings!
Gayl, we did! And thank you! Blessings to you too!
An amazing gift! Thank you!
Carey, you are welcome!
Mom to 38:33 AM
Thank you for this post. As I mentioned in my post. I thought the last few months that life was too busy for me to be creative, but when I became overly concerned with my to-do list, I was sad because I wasn't taking time to nurture my creative side. I am so thankful to be back to creating and documenting my words and stories again. Thank you for the encouragement. -Jolene
Jolene, thank you! And you're welcome! Glad to see you here!
To create is a beautiful gift. To soak in God's beautiful creation is His gift to us. I love how you share a piece of you throughout this post. Thank you for these words right here … "To create is truly a gift. It reminds us of the beautiful power of God and all God has created." Love you friend!
Thank You, Mary! Love you too friend!
