I am linking up for the Five Minute Friday. The FMF is hosted by Kate Motaung over at our Five Minute Friday website. Today’s word prompt is “fly.” We would love to have you join us.
Summer sun shining brightly
Children gleefully playing
Water splashing
Children laughing
The glow of the campfire
As the sun begins to set
The light of the firefly
Shining as they fly around
Sticky S’more covered hands and faces
The smell of campfire lingering
On ones clothes.
The night sky darkens
The crescent moon rises
Stars twinkling
Sweet little ones
Rest their heads
And drift off to dreamland.
Mosquitoes and other bugs fly around
A reminder once again
Of the beauty of God’s creation.
Around the fire
A deep sigh is released
A peaceful holy night
Silence
And of course, I had to share my fave group singing one of my all time fave songs.
that’s a quiet settling type of poem. Good to read before bed. π
Lovely poem, Tara.
I’ve been spending time under the stars in the evenings, of late. I watch for the aeroplanes passing over.
People think that I’ve given up on that one which I am building from blueprints and raw materials, or that it’s just a make-work project whilst I am in God’s Waiting Room.
But I’m gonna make it through, and I’m gonna fly it.
The summer nights have told me so.

Thank you for the lovely poem. Perfect as I write out on my patio today. The first thing I thought of when I saw today’s words was the Jars of Clay song as well. Now, I really can’t get it out of my head! FMF14
I really like your poetry. I borrowed a poem for my post today. Poetry is like a word bath.
Beautiful poem and beautiful song you shared! What a good fit between the two. π Your FMF neighbor #29
We’re packing up to go camping this weekend and I’m so looking forward to the stickiness of smores and dirt and hiking. Of looking at the stars and remembering how vast our universe is.
That’s a lovely poem, Tara! Summer nights like that are wonderful.
So evocative (and now I want a s’more!). <3
I miss those special lingering summer evenings – when my kiddos were little…and enjoyed simple pleasures of s’mores and fireflies:) Not miss the mosquitoes!!
i love this description of summer evenings:) i can almost close my eyes and feel myself there. haven’t had a s’more in years!
Loved your poem – so creative. Keep enjoying….

We need to make Smores and a campfire happen this summer. I hoped for one last night but we had a long few evening hours of rain (and thunder). Our kids were able to enjoy the wet in the pool between thunderstorms. It was beautiful to see them swim and have fun in the rain on a summer's night.
We had a beautiful dragonfly in the screen of our back patio yesterday. I'm not sure that we have fireflies in FL. I love them though! I'll settle for the beauty of dragonflies instead. I always love your words, and I am glad to have known you for years as a part of the FMF community. One day perhaps we'll meet in person! I do have ND family that I owe a visit to.

Love the poem and the movement from daytime to night to finally silence! Beautiful! Blessings to you, Tara! xo
π This brings back so many memories of summer nights of my childhood! Thank you!
What a lovely poem! I can picture it! Summer nights around the campfire are the best, so many fond memories…
This post brought a smile to my face. Such happy memories!
