What Makes Your Heart Sing?

I am linking up for Five Minute Friday. The FMF is hosted by Kate Motaung on her blog Heading Home. Today’s prompt is “sing.” I love spending time with this crew. They bless me beyond words. We’d love to have you join us. Just hop onto Twitter on Thursday evenings and follow the #fmfparty. Hope to see you there! And by the way, you may have noticed some changes to this space. Thanks to Dan at FistBump Media!

The words are exuberantly song by the children. Some are waving vigorously trying to get the attention of at mom, dad and grandparents. Others are trying to pull their dress up over their head. Little boys are poking each other. Yet the words of the gospel are proudly sung as they sing loudly.

Kids have this way of teaching us so much. The lesson is that God doesn’t really care how we sound. God wants us to proudly sing his praises. I will admit that I am not a great singer. In fact, I really cant even carry a tune in a bucket. Yet I love singing along to the radio.

My favorite song comes onto the radio and I crank the volume up on the radio.  I then sing at the top of my lungs. Lately, it has been jamming out to Ellie Holcomb’s new album Red Sea Road. (Seriously people pick it up, I promise you wont be disappointed.)

This last week, we proclaimed Christ is risen. He is risen indeed. Allelulia. In the changing of seasons, as signs of new life are all around us, hosannas permeate the air as we trust in the promise of the resurrection. Through the Easter promise, we sing our Hosannas and declare that we are Easter people; that we are Hosanna people.

As Hosanna people, God promises to never leave us or forsake us. God gives us each different gifts and abilities. I love spending time cuddling with an infant (Emma, I seriously wanted to crawl through my phone to snuggle your new son) I love writing and words. These are just a few things that make my heart sing.

  1. “God gives us different gifts and abilities.” I am being reminded of this often recently and trying hard to bring that into focus with my children. Thank you for a lovely post. It brought a smile to my face. – Lori, FMF #52

  2. I love your post, Tara. “Hosanna people”: that is great. I want to be one of those people who call on God for rescue and praise Him for His faithfulness.

  3. I am a joyful noise maker myself. And I’ve been known to turn the volume way up. Great to celebrate praising the Lord with you. FMF #51, Alice.

  4. I love how you wrote about some actual songs and then told us some things that make your heart sing! I love turning up the radio (computer, CD, etc.) too! Your blog looks great, and how cool wordpress imported your archives! I hope you can rebuild your blogroll; one of the times I changed blogger themes depopulated my blogroll, but I eventually got a few sites back.

  5. Having time and laughing with my kids brings a song to my heart! I love just relaxing with my hubby or even working alongside him. Just being with him makes me happy…. guess that’s why quality time is one of my love languages. I think it’s important to find those places where our hearts sing and go there as often as we can so that our hearts are renewed and refreshed! Thanks for the encouragement! Happy Weekend to you!

  6. We can learn so much from children and their lack of self-consciousness, and God is happy with our praise however it sounds. I’ve been enjoying listening to Ellie Holcomb’s album too. I think Fighting Words is my favourite. Your new blog looks great!

  7. Tara, I smiled at the thought of the children singing so uninhibitedly, wishing I could do the same. Then these words brought me up short and offered a helping of holy encouragement: “The lesson is that God doesn’t really care how we sound. God wants us to proudly sing his praises.” Amen! I may just have to let rip regardless. Thanks for sharing your insights on how our lives and hearts can sing for Him. Bless you, friend! xo

  8. May we sing Hosanna every day of the year, right? One of the things that makes my heart sing is finding beautiful things to photograph. And words. Definitely words. 🙂

    Have a great weekend, friend!

  9. I love this, Tara! We are told to make a joyful noise, not to sing perfectly, right? Oh, and love listening to children sing. 🙂

    Blessings!

  10. Hey Tara, Finally getting a chance to visit and read your post! You are right, we did go in a similar direction. The imagery you paint in the beginning of kids singing is dead on. Beautifully done.
