Listening

I am linking up for the Five Minute Friday. This is also day 4 of Write 31 days. This week’s FMF word prompt is “listen.” We would love to have you join us.

The music wafts through the air. Each sound and lyric a prayer to my ears. It’s amazing to me how music often speaks to us.

I can remember standing almost at the top of Estes Cone in the Colorado Rocky Mountains a few summers ago. A makeshift cross and altar next to me. A simple card left to disintegrate in the dirt. Tears streaming down my face as I lifted my prayers to God and I listened to these words from Ellie Holcomb “Sometimes we have to bury dreams leave them deep in the earth behind us.”

Music is often prayers lifted to God. I think of so many of my favorite songs and artists…Rend Collective, Lauren Daigle, Jars of Clay, Ryan Stevenson—just to name a few.

Ryan’s new song “When We Fall Apart” is a great example of how we Capp listen to those we love and can use their words to create something beautiful. This song is a gift especially if you’ve lost someone close. Give it a listen!

  1. I agree! “Music is often prayers lifted to God.” I have been enjoying the hymns we sing on Sunday morning–some of them written a hundred years ago or more.

  2. Music is so powerful for reminding us of truth and helping us focus on God. I haven’t heard any of Ryan Stevenson’s music before but I like the song you shared.

  3. Thank you for sharing, Tara. What a great way to use that prompt and I appreciate your vulnerability in discussing your grief.
