I have spent the week at Summer School studying the Gospel and Western culture, we have looked at art, literature, music, film and popular culture in their myriad expressions. With that in mind I bring you the cultural Friday 5.
1. Book—“The Horizontal World: Growing up Wild in the Middle of Nowhere” Its great…about growing up in ND. I am really enjoying it!
2. Piece of music—-“Love Song for a Savior” by Jars of Clay
3. Work of art—The Last Supper
5. Unusual engagement with popular culture—Im not sure what the author means by this question but for me…its probably that Im addicted to Reality tv shows. I think I watch these shows because they are so ridiculous and make me laugh. I also love writing poetry because for me it is a form of prayer. I also enjoy listening to other peoples poetry as well.
Bonus: Is engagement essential to your Christian faith, how and why? If you mean engagement with other people, absolutely. Its what brings balance to my life and helps me stay sane. It also helps me stay grounded in who I am as a baptized Child of God!
Living baptized–you got it! Maybe that has something to do with reality shows, too? Hey, I know from experience this late a F5 play probably won’t generate many if any comments, but here’s one–I need to check out that book and put it on my amazon wish list.
By the way, about your comment on my Romans 6:4 graphics group, I’m entering our local St. Mark’s UMC’s digital graphics competition. I’ve decided to add filters and layer styles to the first one of the group. We can enter three, so this is only one.
Hey T! Thanks for commenting on my blog. And yes, it’s a mutual friend. She says she has a hard time making nicknames stick. I’m trying to be creative here! 🙂 Have a good one.
