The Ringer

I finally got around to watching the Ringer today. For those of you that havent heard the Ringer is a Farrelly brothers moving starring Johnny Knoxville. The movie centers around Knoxville’s character rigging the Special Olympics competition etc. I was a little worried about how the athletes would be portrayed etc. However I learned that Special Olympics wouldnt let the Farrelly brothers do the movie unless they consulted SO and also used real SO athletes. So the movie went ahead and was made and yes they did use real athletes. For example, the Jimmy character is popular SO athlete Leonard Flowers. Ok so I decided to purchase the movie on Pay per view and watch it today. I must admit I was extremely satisfied and happy with the results of the movie. The Farrelly brothers did a good job portraying true SO athletes. It was fun to see things like the real oath,” Let me win but if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt” in the movie. This movie could definetely be used as a teaching tool. Kudos to the Farrelly brothers and SO for making a movie that captures the SO spirit! I worked with SO last summer and it was one of the best experiences of my life. These athletes have such an awesome drive and spirit. Its fun to watch them compete. I learned so much from them! Check out the movie for yourselves! I think you will be truly surprised.

  1. Thanks for your comments on the movie. I have put off viewing it for some of the same concerns but knowing your experiencing and undrestanding of SO and Special Needs, I will now rent it!
